Assignment 5
Teacher Directed podcast used as lessons core activity.

My lesson plans will be part of an indoor classroom activities unit. This is the unit that is taught over the holidays when the children are getting ready for their winter singing programs. The gym is used for singing and play rehersals and physical education is taught in the classroom. Bean bag routines work well in a classroom, as do different exercise podcasts.

Day 1
K-3:

Warm-up: high roller
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: 1 large die per every 4-5 students
HIGHLIGHTS: Small space activity, integrated addition or other math facts, any designated exercise. Cooperation needed, cardiovascular work involved
INSTRUCTIONS: Divide the class into groups of 4 or five per group. Each group is given a die. Each group will sit in a circle formation to allow for each player to take turns in tossing the die. The object of the game is:
K-1: Be the first team to roll six #1’s. 2-3: Be the first team to reach 33 points or above.
Following are the rules of the game:
Each player in turn will roll the die. The group will quickly try and roll six 1’s or will quickly add the number of the die and continue until they reach 33 or roll a six. If a six is rolled, the team must run to the doorway and do 5-10 jumping jacks before they continue. After jumping jacks the group will then start again, but from 0.
The first groups to either get six 1’s or make it to 33 or above will assume the dead ant position and chant "engine, engine #9”

NOTE: To add cardio to game, have student who rolled die run to the front of the class and record their roll. When a 6 or 1 is rolled have students perform 3 burpies calling out the number.
Core Activity: Podcast Activity
BEANBAG TOSS:
EQUIPMENT: One beanbag per student—possibly beanie babies. Computer with Podcast and speakers.
HIGHLIGHTS: Small space activity. Work will emphasize balance, muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular strength, listening skills.
INSTRUCTIONS: Have students in scattered formation. Listen to the Podcast and follow along. Pause Podcast when necessary.

Day 2
K-3

Warm up: Stride Bal
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: 1 small rubber soccer ball/ group of 5.
HIGHLIGHTS: Eye-had coordination, strategy, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, cooperation.
INSTRUCTIONS: Players stand in a circle formation with feet spread a little wider than shoulder width apart and touching the feet of the players on each side. The ball will be placed in the center. The object of the game is to push (roll) the ball so that it passes through the legs (goal) of another player. Players use both hands to defend their goal. To start the game, the server must place the ball in the center of the circle. Once placed, any player other than the server may strike the ball. The server may not be the first player to hit his own serve. Once another player touches the ball, the server may play as normal. Each time a ball goes through a players legs (goal), a point is scored against him/her. The player with the lowest score wins the game.
HELPFUL HINTS: A point is also scored against a player who hits another player in the head or face with the ball.
Play until 1 player reaches a set number of points (5 for example). At this point the game would end and the lowest score wins.
